PH Scale

We use a PH scale to determine how alkaline or acid a certain food is after digestion. Here are some quick facts about PH:

  • The PH scale goes from 0 to 14.
  • A PH of 7 is neutral.
  • A PH of 0-7 is acid.
  • A PH of 7-14 is alkaline.
  • The PH of healthy blood is 7.35.
  • PH stands for: Potential for freeing Hydrogen ions.
  • The difference between acidity and alkalinity is based on their ability to free hydrogen ions.
  • Each unit of change represents a tenfold change in acidity or alkalinity. Thus the difference between a PH of 4 and 5 is much greater than the difference between 6 an 7.

PH and Health

Your body functions best when your blood is 7.35 on the PH scale, thus slightly alkaline. Different organs in your body may have different optimal PH numbers from your blood.

If your blood PH decreases below 7 or above 7.45, your body can no longer work and death results. Thus it is extremely important for your body to maintain a healthy acid alkaline balance. The blood will immediately correct even the slightest change in PH.

Your body has two ways to balance the PH of blood: 1. to eliminate it from the body (thru sweat, urine, breath or store them as body fat)2. to neutralize the acids with salts (minerals) such as calcium.

This explains why excess body weight (acids stored as fats) and osteoporosis (calcium from the bones used to neutralize blood acids) are both results of acidity. And why some people just can't lose weight and dieting without replenishing your body with alkaline foods can be dangerous for your health.

But demineralization can do much more. Very common results are arthritis, brittle teeth, weak hair or nails, dry skin.

Typical characteristics of an acid person are: low energy, no enthusiasm, tires quickly irritable, too much and poor sleep. Acid people are often sensitive to cold. The immune system weakens which makes your prone to viruses (cold and flu) and recurring infections (bronchitis, urinary tract infection).

If acidity becomes chronic, an amazing variety of illnesses may occur and show up in someone's weak spots. From cancer to diabetes, PMS and allergies.

Actually, in 1931, Otto Warburg won the Nobel prize for his discovery that cancer is caused by weakened cell respiration due to lack of oxygen in the cells. He found that damaged cell respiration causes fermentation, resulting in low PH! In other words, the main cause of cancer is the acidity in the body. Today we know that not only cancer thrives in acid conditions but most other diseases as well.

If you can't believe that such important discovery is not known by everybody and that your kids don't learnt the PH of foods at school? So can't I! Well, let my alkaline food list below be a start!
