What are calcium deficiency symptoms and how important is calcium? What you read here may surprise you and you may have never heard or read it before. But what you find here, may safe your life.
Traditionally, you'll find as a list of calcium deficiency symptoms:
But did you know that calcium deficiency could also lead to:
But, are all above symptoms really due to calcium deficiency? Here are two interesting findings:
The postgraduate medical Journal in 1976 revealed that calcium deficiency caused by an insufficient amount of calcium in the diet is not known to occur in humans at all.
Gabriel Cousins M.D. and author researched nutrition for over 35 years. He found that calcium deficiency is not a threat to someone eating a plant based only diet.
In other words:
"When a person on a (raw) vegan diet is low in calcium, he is unlikely to have any calcium deficiency symptoms."
Based on what I've read, learned and some plain common sense, the calcium deficiency symptoms are due to your body being demineralized.
Demineralization is a lack of major minerals. Deficiency in these minerals makes your body acid (= demineralized). The opposite of acid is alkaline (= mineralized).
One of the most important alkaline minerals is calcium. Other important alkaline minerals are magnesium, potassium, silica, iron, sodium, sulfur. Most people eating a standard american diet are deficient in many or most of these minerals.
How does demineralization lead to calcium deficiency symptoms?
If your body is insufficient in ANY of the alkaline minerals, your body will extract calcium from the bones, teeth or other organs. This leads to weak bones, teeth, osteoporosis, etc. When your bones are tested and appear to be low in calcium it is assumed that his because of calcium deficiency. It is however, a sign of deficiency in alkaline minerals. It is a red flag that you should remineralize.
So, what is the importance of calcium?
Calcium protects you from viruses and bad bacteria. (Calcium is one of the most important alkaline minerals. It increases the oxygen level in your blood. Bad bacteria and viruses cannot survive in an oxygen rich environment, discovered Nobel Prize Winner Otto Warburg)
Calcium is one of best transporters of nutrients to your cells.
Calcium balances your pH - if there is insufficient calcium (or other alkaline minerals) stored in the cells, your body will extract it from your bones and tooth, leading to optimum blood pH, but also weak bones.
Eating foods high in calcium is just ONE way to relieve the calcium deficiency symptoms. It would be best if you make sure you are sufficient in all alkaline minerals.
Super foods and nutrition specialist David Wolfe points out that babies are relatively low in calcium but high in silica. Older people however, are high in calcium but low in silica. Young people are flexible (silica). Old people stiff (calcium).
Therefore, David suggests to focus on silica intake, rather than on calcium intake. An additional benefit: silica doesn't have the side effect of forming calcium stones.
Since calcium deficiency symptoms are actually symptoms of demineralization (= high acidity), the questions really is: "How to remineralize?"
The Answer is simple:
Stay away from foods that worsen your symptoms because they withdraw alkaline minerals from your body: meat, dairy, sugary and processed food.
Going on a raw food diet (temporarily or long term.) is a great way to remineralize. For this reason, juice feasting is becoming increasingly popular. Juice feasting is a vegetable juice fast, thus very high in alkaline minerals. It's one of the best natural ways to remineralize (and detox) quickly.
Here's why calcification is bad for you:
