Nutritional Value of Spinach &
Popeye Cartoon Characters

This afternoon, I was trying to convince my 3 year old son about the nutritional value of spinach. He looked at me as if I was from another planet. When he ate all on his plate, except the spinach I realized I needed a different approach.

That's when I remembered the Popeye Cartoon Characters. Good old Popeye the Sailor Man. I showed my son some YouTube videos and it was enough to let him eat at least some of his spinach.

Popeye, the biggest promotor of spinach ever, deserves some more attention. So in honor of the good old Popeye, here are some Popeye videos that you or your kids may enjoy. I'll also add info about the nutritional benefits of spinach. And - in case you'd like to sing along - the lyrics of the Popeye song.

Nutritional Value of Spinach

Spinach has a high nutritional value and is extremely rich in. Below is an overview of the % RDA for an adult per 100 gram raw spinach.

  • Vitamin A - 52%
  • Folate (Vit B9) - 49%
  • Vit C - 47%
  • Vit E - 13%
  • Vitamin K - 460%
  • Calcium - 10%
  • Iron - 22%

You will get maximum benefit from these nutrients when you add some spinach to your smoothie or juice for easy absorption.

Popeye Lyrics

I'm Popeye the sailor man
I'm Popeye the sailor man
I'm strong to the finish
Cause I eats me spinach
I'm Popeye the sailor man.
